If you’re interested in pursuing a successful painting career, you can now apply for a Pre-Apprenticeship at MPA Skills.

Master Painters and Decorators Australia [MP&DA] partner, MPA Skills is the largest provider of specialised apprentice training in Western Australia and is renowned for producing the state’s best tradesmen and women.

MPA Skills is a Registered Training Organisation [RTO] as well as a Group Training Organisation [GTO], which means it is a mentor and employer of apprentices to Host Employers too.

To apply for the next ten-week Pre-Apprenticeship Course - Building & Construction Certificate II Painting & Decorating Pathway [National ID: 52443WA], you need to:

  1. Complete the Enrolment Form
  2. Create a Unique Student Identifier Number [USI]
  3. Provide a cover letter and resume
  4. Provide a copy of their Birth Certificate
  5. Provide a copy of a Concession Card [if applicable]
  6. 'Notice of Arrangement' or 'Exemption' form [if applicable]
  7. Read the MPA Skills Student Handbook

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an interview with an MPA Skills trainer. At the interview, you will be asked to complete an aptitude test, which includes some basic maths and English questions [calculators are supplied].

Pre-Apprenticeship Building & Construction Certificate II Painting & Decorating Pathway [National ID: 52443WA]

By completing a Pre-Apprenticeship Course [Building & Construction Certificate II Painting & Decorating Pathway] you will be well on the way to becoming an apprentice painter and decorator, and harnessing the necessary skills that are highly sought after in the building and construction industry.

The ten-week Pre-Apprenticeship course covers areas such as interpreting plans; taking measurements; preparing surfaces; painting techniques; scaffolding; workplace safety and time management.

Painting and Decorating is known as the ‘finishing trade’ of the building and construction industry and encompasses areas such as:

Architectural: Internal and external painting and decorating over various surfaces [new and existing homes, renovation and restoration].

Commercial: Internal and external painting and decorating over various surfaces [hospitals, shops, hotels and buildings of historical significance].

Career Prospects

Once you have successfully completed the Pre-Apprenticeship course, you will have acquired the necessary skills to enrol in an Apprenticeship Course [Certificate III in Painting & Decorating].

MPA Skills offer the Certificate III in Painting & Decorating course at its Maylands and Jandakot campuses.

The course is also available through South Metropolitan TAFE.
