How will Master Painters & Decorators Australia [MP&DA] communicate with me?

  • MP&DA will send text communications advising when information has been sent to you via email. It is important that you check your emails regularly in the lead up to the competition.

Will I get paid my wages on the day of competition?

  • This must be discussed and arranged with your employer prior to you entering the competition. Your employer will receive an email asking to confirm their approval once your entry has been submitted.

Will I be able to park at MPA Skills on competition day?

  • Parking at the Maylands Campus is limited, but it is available. Should the carpark be full, there is parking at the Coles supermarket, which is a short distance away on Guildford Road.

If I get confused or run into a problem on the competition day, is there someone I can talk to?

  • You may talk to either one of the two adjudicators present on the day if you run into any problems.

What if I need to borrow tools on the day of the competition?

  • Most tools and equipment are provided by MP&DA for the competition, however a list of tools that the competitor needs to bring will appear in the competition pack. If you are unable to bring the tools listed or your tools are not able to be used or not functioning correctly on the day, you should advise one of the adjudicators who will endeavour to find replacements or assist in rectifying the problem.

If I am half-way through a task at a break time, can I finish the section I’m doing?

  • You must stop during the breaks. This is why your planning of the competition piece and your day is so important.

Can I talk to others during the competition?

  • You can talk directly to the adjudicators or to other contestants, however you are not permitted to talk to any spectators who may attend to watch you on the day.

What can I bring on the day?

  • You bring your tools and equipment as detailed in the competition pack and any paperwork regarding your plan | schedule of work.
    • Ladders and drop sheets will be supplied
    • Morning tea and lunch will be provided

What do I do when the competition finishes?

  • You must quickly pack-up you gear and leave the competition area to allow access to the judges.

When will I be advised if I have won a position?

  • Results of the theory assessment will be advised on the Monday after completion via text and email. The Top 12 finalists competing in the physical competition will not be announced until the Awards for Excellence Presentation, which is held on Friday 29th October 2021.

Do I have to attend the Awards for Excellence Presentation and can I bring someone with me?

  • If you are a Top 10 finalist, then you must attend the Apprentice of the Year Awards night. Each finalists will receive two complimentary tickets - one for the finalist and one guest. Any additional guests can purchase tickets online. Details of how to order tickets will be released six weeks prior to the presentation's night.
